Charity vs. Free Game

For one week, episode 3 of our Wallace and Gromit PC game series entitled Muzzled is free! This is my personal favorite of all the episodes we did for this series, so I’d highly recommend checking it out. Also, the entire season is now $20 for this week as well, and a portion of the sales go towards the Wallace and Gromit Children’s Foundation and Penny Arcade Child’s Play charities. Everybody wins!

Monkey Island vs. Voodoo Resurrection of a Franchise

In case you haven’t heard, there’s A FREAKIN’ NEW MONKEY ISLAND GAME!

This is a weird turn events for me, as someone who grew up as a major Monkey Island geek. I’m only doing a small amount of programming on this new game, but it’s a major thrill. If I could have told the me-of-10-years-ago that I’d be working at a company that was doing this game, I’d probably freak. Monkey Island 2 is still, by far, my favorite game of all time. Cheers!

Discounts on Games vs. “What Are You, Rich or Something?”

Times are tough. How are you supposed to pay for your gaming habit when the economy is being destroyed by, well, whoever you like to blame for our current situation? The answer is… coupons!

To celebrate Telltale Games’ 5 year anniversary, you can use my personal coupon code to get any one of our episodes for just $5. Here’s my code:

Enjoy! And in case you’re wondering, no, I don’t get any commission on this. My reward is bringing joy to the masses… and not being unemployed.

W&G Episode 1 vs. $29.95 = W&G!!@

Will you beeeeeee mine? Get it?

Well, the bad news is that the pre-sale period is over. The good news is that online casinoEpisode 1: Fight of the Bumblebees is out for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures! For the PC, at least. XBLA is coming soon… but the critics are already having some very nice things to say! Go on and buy it now!

UPDATE, Unsolved Mysteries style!
I now officially love the good people over at IGN and the Sunday Times in London. Also, it’s pretty cool that people are now posting YouTube playthrough videos for Episode 1.

Recession vs. Cheap Games

Preorder Wallace & Gromit!

Woah ho! Look at that. You can now pre-order Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures on the PC! It’s four great episodes… plus two other free games! One is about a sexy Mexican wrestler and the other is about some kind of killer rabbit. I hear they’re good games.

There’s also a trailer and a free demo. The game will soon be out for PC and XBLA. Finally, this thing I’ve been working on for oh so many months is seeing the light of day.

Altair vs. 2600

Thanks to services like Gamefly, I feel like I finally have a chance to catch up on my backlog of games-I-probably-should-play-but-those-things-cost-a-lot. Currently I’m in the midst of playing Assassin’s Creed. Now I know I’m really behind the curve on this, but I have to say, this is probably one of the best games I’ve played in recent years. I’m loving the setting, and the story so far seems like high quality stuff. Or maybe it’s just refreshing to play a game that has nothing to do with zombies, WWII, aliens, vampires, or scientific experiments gone wrong… oh wait, scratch that last part.

I almost didn’t play this game, just because I’ve heard so many complaints about it being too repetitive. While I think they may have a point there, I do think it’s weird to say that and then turn around and declare GTA4 one of the greatest games ever made.

One thing I will say is that playing the game did give me a slight sense déjà vu from 1982. But in a good way.

8-Bits vs. Cheese Grits

Wow, Christmas already happened. Weird. And the sweet release of death is near for 2008. (Some call it New Year’s Eve.) So much time has gone by so fast… and hey, look at that. The first season of Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People is now complete with the release of the final episode, 8-Bit Is Enough!

Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough

The weird thing about working for a company like Telltale where you actually like playing the games they produce is this: You don’t usually get to play the games. Stuff moves so fast, and since I’ve been up to my parietal lobe (look it up) in Wallace & Gromit programming tasks, I didn’t actually get to play the final episode until my holiday break. I must say, it’s definitely my favorite. It’s steeped in nostalgia for old games like King’s Quest and others. Plus, the thing I really like about Chuck Jordan’s writing style is that he’s totally not afraid to make fun of the adventure game genre. I love games that don’t take themselves too seriously, and Chuck is rapidly becoming the king of that. I’m proud to have my name attached to this episode at all… even if it is for code that I wrote months and months ago.

Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures: Episode 1

But enough of that old played-out game series. Time for something new! Wallace & Gromit is finally getting some press love. I’m glad we’re finally coming out with some screenshots to show how much love has been given to the whole clay look. Plasticine, to be more specific. 2009 will prove to be the year of Wallace & Gromit episodic gaming! For me an my girlfriend, at least.

Speaking of which, I am now engaged to be married! Insanity. Our wedding ceremony will not be one large event, but rather an episodic affair that will be broken up into smaller monthly events. However, a Wii-Ware release is not certain at this moment.

Game Industry vs. Ad Industry: Round 1

First entry in one of many (maybe) comparisons between the game industry and the ad industry.

Round 1 Winner: Ad industry for having nearly as many women as men working in the office.

Although this isn’t a huge pro in my mind for the reasons you might think. No, I’m talking in regards to the bathroom. Telltale Games has an office of roughly 50 people, with a vast majority being dudes. When you have a bathroom with just one urinal and one stall, it gets ugly pretty fast.

Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People – Episode 2: Strong Badia The Free it out! And some people seem to like it! Feel free to pick it up today on PC or WiiWare so that I don’t get fired.
